Hard and Soft Landscaping

At Riney, we deliver high-quality hard and soft landscaping solutions that enhance and structure outdoor environments across urban and public spaces. Our integrated approach ensures that both the functional and aesthetic elements of landscape design are expertly executed to meet the needs of local authorities, developers, and the public.

Hard Landscaping

Our hard landscaping services provide the structural foundation of outdoor spaces, including:

  • Pavements and footpaths
  • Roads and accessways
  • Retaining walls and boundary fences
  • Timber and composite decking
  • Seating areas and public realm features

These elements are essential for defining space, improving accessibility, and creating durable, low-maintenance environments.

Soft Landscaping

Our soft landscaping services introduce natural elements that promote biodiversity and environmental well-being, including:

  • Tree planting and shrubbery
  • Flower beds and seasonal planting
  • Turfing and grass seeding
  • Rain gardens and green infrastructure
  • Soil improvement and irrigation systems

Soft landscaping plays a vital role in improving air quality, supporting urban wildlife, and enhancing the visual appeal of public spaces.

Featured Projects

London Square – Royal London Hospital & Tower Hamlets Town Hall

As part of a public realm enhancement scheme outside the Royal London Hospital A&E entrance and Tower Hamlets Town Hall, Riney delivered a comprehensive upgrade that included:

  • Increased drainage capacity
  • Installation of large planters and bespoke paving
  • Street furniture and a water fountain
  • Coordination with hospital operations and emergency services via a restricted access route
  • This project significantly improved the functionality and appearance of a high-traffic public space.

Crossrail – Durward Street Public Realm

Following late design changes to the Whitechapel Station layout, Riney transformed the former bus stand area into a welcoming stone-paved public space. Key features included:

  • Creation of a pedestrian walkway linking Whitechapel Road and Durward Street
  • Installation of rain gardens and planters
  • Upgraded lighting for safety and ambiance

This hard and soft landscaping project supported Crossrail’s vision of creating accessible, attractive public spaces around key transport hubs.
